Time: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 16:30pm
Main Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of an outreach youth worker is to support pupils in accessing a secure and safe learning environment and activities in line with the pupils needs. You will be responsible for supporting your pupil to access their learning environment, at a pre-planned designated off-site location, facilitating their virtual school’s programme. Furthermore, you are also responsible for providing effective pastoral care to support their social and emotional progress as well as their learning. Outreach youth workers are also required to contribute and be involved in extracurricular activities and the wider life of the school community.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support & drive positive expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils by:
Establishing a safe and stimulating environment for pupils, ingrained in mutual respect
Supporting mutual agreed goals that stretch and challenge ALL pupils
Demonstrating consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour which are expected of pupils – leading by example.
Demonstrating and awareness of the physical, social and academic development of children and knowing how to adapt to support our pupils’ learning at different stages of their development and emotional state
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils by:
Being aware of your pupils’ learning and environmental needs so they are prepared for their virtual school’s lessons
Guiding your pupil to reflect on their days
To report and record pupil’s attainment, progress and results of assessments within the school’s recording and reporting structure.
Manage behaviour effectively:
Having clear expectations which help promote behaviour for learning, and taking responsibility for driving good and courteous behaviour in the community, embracing the culture of ‘catching our pupils being good’
Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary
Be prepared for your day, ensuring all resources are organised and arranged in advance.
Ability to build positive rapports with disengaged pupils, working together to break down any barriers
Professional development and performance appraisal:
Attend all CPD days and training as required
Review own professional development and identify training needs
Take part in the school’s performance appraisal programme and be committed to improving own practice
Act upon advice and feedback and be open to coaching and mentoring
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities by:
Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
developing effective professional relationships with colleagues
Taking responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development, responding to advice and feedback from colleagues

Contributing to, and supporting pupils to contribute to the school’s news communications
Using school systems in place efficiently and effectively, class-dojo, Cpoms, E4L
Provide updates to the Designated Teacher about identified pupils for up-and-coming PEP and annual review meetings
Other responsibilities:
ALL staff are expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct
Staff may be asked to undertake occasional other, reasonable tasks at the request of their line manager
The school is committed to the safeguarding of children and all staff are required to understand and follow any safeguarding policies and procedures that are in place
Undertaken ‘Keeping In Touch’ days during each half term, as arranged with your Operations manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications
GCSE/Level 2 in English & Maths (Desirable)
Youth worker qualification (Desirable)
Experience
Experience in supporting pupils/young people in the community
Supported pupils/young people in engaging within programmes (school, education, youth work, care setting)
Experience in working with pupils who have SEMH
Skills and Abilities
Ability to create a safe and secure learning environment
Ability to break down barriers so pupils feel safe to access learning opportunities
Be creative in approach, utilising pupils’ interests to encourage them and help them engage
